Jennifer was still struggling to find balance in her She-Hulk identity when dead gods started to rain from the skies. The Celestials had long ago made alterations to Earth in order to breed a possible solution for their infectious foes, the Horde. But now, Horde-corrupted Celestials called the Final Host struck first, sending many Celestials impacting on Earth. Jen saw the fall of Eson the Searcher near Battery Park and the dying Celestial made contact with her mind before augmenting her gamma levels considerably. The savage Hulk that emerged was teleported away by Eson, linking up with Robbie Reyes, L.A.’s new Ghost Rider, and they battled to the center of the Earth to save Black Panther and Doctor Strange from a spawning hive of the Horde.

As the Avengers reassembled, Jen’s Hulk teamed up with Thor to visit the All-Father Odin for guidance. Odin provided some answers about the original Celestial who crashed to Earth in 1,000,000 B.C., the Progenitor, and directed them towards the Blood of Ymir, which might give them the strength to survive the day. Hulk and Thor pressed forward to retrieve the Blood from the supernatural cold surrounding it and, on impulse, Hulk kissed Thor to feed him enough gamma heat to stay warm. Hulk and a blushing Thor brought the Blood of Ymir back to Earth, using it to grow to colossal proportions as several Giant-Size Avengers battled the Final Host. Together, the Avengers forged a makeshift Uni-Mind and purged the Earth of the Horde, even restoring the fallen infected Celestials. The Avengers and the Celestials then joined forces against the Final Host and won the day for the Earth. [Avengers (7th series) #1-6]

Jen joined the new team of Avengers who formed from this crisis, inhabiting the 2000’ tall body of the Progenitor at the Celestials’ behest, turning it into Avengers Mountain at the North Pole. Doctor Strange and the Avengers’ scientists analyzed Jen’s new abilities and Hulk form. Eson’s effect on her radiation levels now made Jennifer a living gamma bomb, with a vast potential for violent nuclear eruption linked to her rage. While Jen’s Hulk had a simplified vocabulary, it appeared as if Jennifer Walters, Esq. was still mentally whole and in control during her changes. Jen recognized her powers were a gift from the Celestials, and she was ready to use them for the good of the Avengers, and the world. She and the Odinson also began to awkwardly feel out what the Hulk/Thor kissing episode had really been between them. [Avengers (7th series) #8]

Hulk appreciated the chance to let loose when she had the opportunity, using her vastly augmented strength in battle with Russia’s Winter Guard and the rogue Prince Namor of Atlantis and his Defenders of the Deep. [Avengers (7th series) #9-10] She faced a more personal threat when the Avengers were strongarmed by Shadow Base into pursuing the recently resurrected Bruce Banner. Jennifer still loved her cousin, but she was seriously conflicted over his assisted suicide attempt and having pressured one of her own best friends Hawkeye into helping him with it. The encounter inevitably turned into a fight, with Hulk vs. Hulk, and a real question over whose rage made them stronger now. But Banner’s current incarnation as the “Devil Hulk” was far more crafty and cunning than past incarnations. He knew that Jen’s strength came from her rage these days and strategized around it, challenging her fears that she might rage out of control. This momentary lapse of focus in her rage caused her to hesitate and lose her full strength long enough for him to overpower her. [Immortal Hulk #6-7]

Jennifer practiced Wakandan meditation techniques to help her control the Hulk manifestations and avoid detonating with her anger. She learned how to produce (semi-)controlled gamma eruptions with her power, although this still meant she effectively detonated a gamma bomb on Russian soil while fighting the Shadow Colonel and his vampire Legion of the Unliving. So, there was a learning curve. She and Thor finally had their first date, a picnic in the Savage Land. They struggled at first, for Thor was used to impressing women with his strength and Jen was worried he only wanted to ask out the Hulk. The Thunder God did manage to stumble through a truly romantic expression of his feelings, though, and so both Jen and Hulk agreed there would be more kissing in the future. [Avengers (7th series) #11-17]

Dark times soon fell upon Thor’s people and, through them, all of Midgard as the War of the Realms came to Earth. Malekith invaded New York City with an army of elves, fire demons, frost giants and mercenary angels. Thor was exiled to Jotunheim before the first strike, leaving Hulk and the Avengers to face the Dark Council of Worlds without the Thunder God. After the evacuation of Manhattan’s population to Avengers Mountain, the team organized strikeforces to bring the fight to Malekith. Hulk joined the All-Mother Lady Freyja and a team to assail the Black Bifrost and prevent further deployment of Malekith’s troops. Jen wasn’t sure how to tell the Norse Goddess of Marriage that she was sleeping with her son, but Hulk cut through the tension and told Freyja about her relationship with Thor. Freyja embraced Jen (and Hulk) as a worthy fellow warrior and companion for her son. Back on Earth, Jen helped reclaim Australia from the Rock Trolls by walloping their king Ulik with a really big mace. [War of the Realms event]

The arrival of the Celestials had completed a loop begun 1,000,000 years ago with a young Odin’s team of “Avenger” adventurers among the cavemen, who fought a diseased Celestial when it first came to the planet. Jen and the modern Avengers continued to find their adventures tied up in the legacies of that ancient roster. Their member, the neophyte Ghost Rider, was challenged to a race by Johnny Blaze to claim the throne of Hell. Captain Marvel built a new vessel for Ghost Rider to pilot in the race, with a Hulk-powered gamma engine. Next, the Avengers were called out into space when a human emigrant became pregnant with the next Star Brand, and the team contended with Gladiator and the Heralds of Galactus who feared the infant’s power. On this mission, Hulk tried out her new suit designed by the Black Panther using Wakandan Vibranium. This costume regulated her gamma output, allowing her to release controlled blasts of radiation on command as “gamma breath” from her throat. [Avengers (7th series) #22-30]

Jennifer faced uncomfortable truths following the invasion of the Cotati. The Avengers were summoned to the Blue Area of the Moon by the plant-people, who had always been their allies in the past, and were warned of the threat of a new Kree-Skrull Alliance. Preparing for an invasion of Earth, Hulk was lured away from the others by the Cotati-Swordsman and consumed from within by Cotati vines and micro-pollen. Jennifer died, but her body was piloted by the Cotati as an infiltrator among the Avengers. When the team found the Young Avenger Hulkling serving as Emperor of the Alliance, the Cotati revealed their plan to grow a Death Blossom and eradicate all “meat-things” in the universe. The Cotati-Hulk even fought with the Swordsman before he escaped, remaining secreted among the defenders as a spy.

The Cotati desired the unique soil surrounding the Wakandan Vibranium mound to nurture their Death Blossom and staged an attack on the nation. At the opportune moment, the Cotati-Hulk betrayed her allies and revealed her true nature. An unstoppable plant-being growing in an invulnerable body, it battered Ben Grimm with gruesome vigor. The Thing refused to give up on Jennifer, though, and implored her to find her way back to her friends and family. The Cotati made the mistake of tapping into the Hulk’s full gamma power, swinging wide the Green Door to the Realm-Below-All and allowing Jen to retake her body, expelling the foreign matter and consciousness. [Empyre event] Jennifer was troubled by all this, as she could not write off this event as a “near-death” experience like the fight with Thanos or being shot by Trask’s mob. She tried to talk to Thor about being immortal or Wolverine about coming back from the dead, but the answers didn’t come. What Jen didn’t remember consciously was passing through the Realm-Below-All and meeting the Leader there. Sterns had claimed control of the Green Door, and he told Jennifer it would be locked to her from now on, meaning she didn’t dare die again. [Immortal She-Hulk #1]

The Avengers’ adventures continued, dancing around the legacy of the prehistoric Avengers from 1,000,000 B.C., and Mephisto’s multiversal plans to end the heroes and humanity. On behalf of his God, Khonshu, Moon Knight stole the power of several heroes in his Ankhs in order to enforce the Moon’s order on Earth and hold off Mephisto himself. Hulk and the Avengers fought back to free the Earth from Khonshu’s control and reclaimed the Ankhs of Power. Before getting them back to their proper owners, Jen briefly wielded the Ankh containing the Iron Fist, swinging dragon chi powered gamma fists as the Iron Hulk. [Avengers (7th series) #31-37] Moon Knight also brought the Phoenix Force back to Earth, and it began looking for a new host among various candidates. Jen saw the rise of the Fire Hulk, as the Phoenix tested its potential hosts against one another. She confronted Namor, the Star-Mariner, and they caused devastation in the Red Square of Moscow before the Phoenix settled on the former Avenger, Echo. [Avengers (7th series) #40-44]

Russia wanted retribution against She-Hulk for the Red Square incident, and the Black Panther’s spies learned the Winter Guard intended to capture Jen and brainwash her in their Red Room facility as a weapon against Atlantis. Jennifer wanted to let this happen, going undercover to learn the Red Widow plans for Atlantis, trusting in her ability to fight off the Red Room’s conditioning. As chairman of the Avengers, T’Challa was very hesitant to let this happen, considering the Hulk’s mental state since returning to active duty, but ultimately he allowed Jennifer to convince him to give Operation: Undercover Hulk a go. The Winter Guard’s infiltration of Avengers Mountain revealed their chief of security, Kenneth Hale the Gorilla-Man, had been compromised as well. Gorilla-Man unleashed a virus that corrupted the Celestials’ systems, handicapping the team’s access to the Mountain. The Avengers put up a show of fighting back, but Jen was kidnapped and convicted before the Russian courts. The Red Widow then spent weeks on behavioral programming to make the Hulk into their agent, the Winter Hulk.

Fearing the worst, the Avenger got tired of waiting for word and stormed the Red Room facility where Jen was being kept. Vostok and Red Widow apparently finished their mission programming for the Winter Hulk and she escaped, on a collision course for Atlantis. The Red Widow intended Jennifer to kill Namor, implicating the Avengers in assassinating a head-of-state, while she followed up with a gamma bomb to wipe out the rest of Atlantis. After initially engaging with Namor, however, Jen reasserted her own force of will and shrugged off the Red Widow’s programming. She gave Namor the warning he needed to evacuate his people. The Winter Hulk then turned on the Russian agents deploying the bomb. Even after the Red Widow injected herself with a Hulk serum, the Winter Hulk defeated her opponents and reached the gamma bomb. It exploded, but Jennifer was able to absorb and contain the full 68 megaton force of the explosion in her body, saving all of Atlantis. [Avengers (7th series) #46-49]

Jennifer swelled to massive proportions, well beyond any Hulk form she had achieved before. Even now, her enhanced powers could not contain so much excess gamma radiation. Still, she staggered her way back to the disabled Avengers Mountain and released her full gamma charge in the mountain’s core. This had the twin effects of purging the Progenitor of the infection Gorilla-Man gave it and regressing Jennifer to a more stable and presentable Hulk form. The sensational She-Hulk was back! Jen quickly re-established her chops as an attorney by defending herself in a retrial before the Supreme Court of Russia. With testimony from Crimson Dynamo and other members of the Winter Guard, She-Hulk reaffirmed her innocence and heroism, while getting Red Widow classified as a rogue agent of the state.

She-Hulk intended to take a leave-of-absence from the Avengers to rebuild her life as an attorney outside of super-heroics. Before she left, however, Jennifer met with Namor. The former King of Atlantis had been abandoned by his people for his continuing failures as a ruler. Namor accepted their decision and received a moment of clarity where he recognized how much he had dishonored himself of late by comparing himself to Jennifer. Arguably an enemy of the state at the time, Jennifer Walters had still risked her own life to save the Atlantean people, and Namor humbled himself before her. He asked what he could do to repay her generosity, and so Jennifer instructed Namor to make amends to the people of Earth by serving in her place as a member of the Avengers, in defense of all people above and below the waves. [Avengers (7th series) #50]

After months of living a Hulk-only lifestyle out of Avengers Mountain, Jennifer struggled to readjust to civilian life. Fortunately, she had friends to help her out. Janet van Dyne had forgotten she owned the penthouse she once lent out to Jen, and so it was still free for Jennifer to stay in as long as her generous and wealthy friend allowed. Jennifer also reached out to Mallory Book for a job. Book was running a smaller solo firm these days, and she was willing to employ Jennifer so long as she committed to it.

Lastly, Jennifer was attacked in the streets by Titania, looking for a rematch. Jen was surprised, as she had heard Mary and Carl had gone legit with Gamma Flight recently. As they tussled in the streets, Jen questioned why Mary was really willing to risk her parole and jail time just for another fight. The two old rivals actually started to talk things out and decided to change the rules of their relationship. Because, as She-Hulk finally admitted to Titania, she liked fighting with her too. Therefore, instead of grudge matches that risked Jen’s life and Mary’s new leaf, they became legitimate sparring partners, ready to wrestle and duke it out for fun in their spare time. Arch-rivalry, but mature and emotionally healthy! [She-Hulk (4th series) #1]

Jennifer's new direction had a surprising twist when Jack of Hearts showed up at her apartment. Despite a few brief returns, Jack had been mostly dead ever since he and Jen were Avengers together and had power problems because of their conflicting radiations. This Jack, though, was alive, confused, and weaker overall. Their gamma radiation and Zero radiation no longer seemed to conflict, so She-Hulk took in Jack of Hearts as a houseguest and roommate while they tried to figure out the gaps in Jack's memories and how he returned from the dead. [She-Hulk (4th series) #2-4]

She-Hulk and Jack of Hearts were among the many heroes of New York who responded to a cataclysmic event. The moon was destroyed by an unknown force, raining down rocks on the Earth as nothing but a precursor to a Badoon invasion. While fighting in the streets, She-Hulk spotted Justice Love and Justice Peace of the Time Variance Authority, and she realized that the Reckoning War she was warned about years ago had finally come to pass. Mister Fantastic and the Fantastic Four were assembling a response to the War, and Reed recruited Jennifer and Jack after Jen told Reed what little she knew.

The Reckoning War was awe-inspiring in scope. Billions of years ago, the race who became the Watchers gave technology to the Prosilicans, only for them to turn that technology to conquest and war. To end the First War, the Watchers created the Ultimate Nullifier and activated it. The Prosicilans were wiped out, along with nine-tenths of the universe, all of which was sealed behind a massive barrier to contain the fallout. The four surviving Prosilican warlords plotted in the Barrens on the other side of the barrier to one day return, and named themselves the Reckoning. When She-Hulk ruled for the Magistrati that the Recluses of Ral-Jek would remain "unwatched" by all except Qyre the silent Watcher, she inadvertently made their world the perfect beachhead for the Reckoning to return from the Barrens unobserved. Wrath and the Reckoning committed genocide on Obscura Minor, wiping out the Ral-Jeks and paving the way for their return.

She-Hulk and Jack of Hearts joined Mister Fantastic and the Thing as they traveled to the World of the M'Kraan Crystal. The Reckoning members Rapture and Reject stole the crystal for their plot against the Watchers, and it was here Jennifer first realized where the Reckoning were coming from. Once they reached Obscura Minor, She-Hulk found the remains of the Ral-Jek race and civilization, and tried to come to terms with the unexpected consequences of her ruling. She and Jack lashed out at the Reckoning, but were beaten and dragged back into the Barrens. Reed and Ben followed after them, but the four heroes were left stranded in the Barrens. Reed reconstructed a Forever Gate of his own, powered by Jack of Heart's Zero Energy, which derived from the same source as the Ultimate Nullifier. Jack would have to remain behind in the Barrens to power the gate, a death sentence for any being. She-Hulk refused to leave Jack behind, but he forced her through the Forever Gate with his Zero Energy.

She-Hulk, the Fantastic Four, and their many allies made their way to the Watchers' adopted world of T-37X, where Wrath intended to use his M'Kraan forged armor to destroy the Apex of All Reality, laying waste to the multiverse out of revenge towards the Watchers. The Reckoning were beaten by their own technology, and Uatu absorbed the knowledge of the Apex to become the supreme and sole remaining Watcher. He cleansed the Barrens and dropped the great barrier, exposing the other nine-tenths of the universe, rechristening them the Borderlands. Jack and Jennifer were reunited as the barrier fell, and She-Hulk witnessed as the TVA Justices reappeared to declare the best of all possible endings to the Reckoning War had occurred. Her actions had led to the death of a planet, but also the rebirth of eight quadrillion worlds. She-Hulk and Jack returned to Earth with the Fantastic Four as she tried to process the weight of the events which had just transpired. [Reckoning War crossover]
