Despite the impressive forces arranged against them, Black Panther and the Illuminati continued pursuing solutions while on the run. With the Cabal regrettably in charge of the Incursions themselves, T'Challa, Reed and the others were able to focus on long-term solutions. All of which failed. Efforts to create a new Earth or Earths with the Cosmic Cube proved unsustainable, while congress with the higher representative entities of the cosmos reached no conclusion. Appeals to the power of Franklin Richards and the Omniversal Captain Britain Corps also ended in disaster. Earths continued to die and the end of everything accelerated towards completion.

If nothing else, T'Challa's relationship with Shuri was restored, for she now understood the circumstances he had been facing. The two Black Panthers joined with the Hatut Zeraze and Dora Milaje in guerrilla actions to reclaim Wakanda. When an Incursion struck, T'Challa and Shuri infiltrated the Necropolis with the intent of sabotaging the anti-matter bombs. Believing none of the Cabal was technically skilled enough to repair the weapons, they hoped to ransom back their country from the world in exchange for restoring the bombs. However, their intelligence reports had lied to them, and Maximus and Proxima Midnight of the Cabal were still in Wakanda. The Black Panthers were forced to flee for their lives as their allies were killed. T'Challa prepared to translocate back to the Illuminati, but Shuri intended to remain behind in defense of Wakanda. Knowing this meant her death, Shuri ceded dominion of Wakanda back to her brother and left him the knife of their father, reminding him to put the knife where it belongs when the time came. And, with that, Queen Shuri of Wakanda fell in battle with Proxima Midnight as her brother fled.

Time was running out for the multiverse, and the Illuminati soon detected a cataclysmic event which reduced the number of surviving universes from hundreds of thousands down to a mere twenty-two. Reed Richards initiated a multi-faceted plan to bring together the various splinter factions that had formed on Earth, including their Illuminati, Steve Rogers' Avengers of S.H.I.E.L.D., the new Avengers who formed under Sunspot and his hostile takeover of A.I.M. when they refused to hunt their friends, and more. To T'Challa's surprise and disgust, one figure at this gathering was Namor. The Sub-Mariner had come to recognize the Cabal as uncontrollable, and was willing to help end their threat. Steve Rogers was only willing to entertain this alliance if Namor and the Illuminati agreed to face trial for their crimes when everything was over and done. Deeply humbled, Namor agreed. Reed Richards, Beast and the other Illuminati agreed. The Black Panther would make no such promise.

Still, the alliance went forward. The Illuminati had projected the next Incursion would be a Mapmaker world, one devoid of life. Namor would bring the entire roster of the Cabal to the Incursion site to face the Sidera Maris and set the anti-matter bomb. Meanwhile, the Illuminati would position a force field generator from A.I.M.'s resources at the juncture point of the Incursion. Namor would fly up and activate the force field once the anti-matter bomb was armed, locking down the Incursion site and leaving the Cabal unable to flee back to Earth-616 before the anti-matter bomb detonated the dead Earth.

All this went as planned until Namor arrived on the force field platform and found T'Challa waiting for him. Without hesitation, the King of Wakanda plunged his father's knife into Namor's chest, putting the blade where it belonged. With the aid of Black Bolt, T'Challa then expelled Namor from the platform, letting him fall to Earth and leaving him trapped at the Incursion site along with the Cabal. T'Challa allowed several minutes to tick down, giving Namor time to recognize he was about to die, and why, and who was responsible for his death. For the destruction of Wakanda, the losses it suffered under the Phoenix Five, Thanos' invasion and the Cabal, all traceable back to the Sub-Mariner... T'Challa of Wakanda sentenced Namor the First to die. The force field held, the second Earth was destroyed and Black Panther and Black Bolt returned to their allies and reported that Namor would not be joining them.

Extrapolating out, the Illuminati determined their Earth would miss all the remaining Incursions until the last one, giving them some time to prepare. At this juncture, it was finally accepted that Earth and the multiverse were doomed. Instead, the Illuminati focused on securing the survival of their species in some fashion. They constructed a life raft, forged from the skin of the fallen multiversal god called the Living Tribunal, in an effort to create a ship that might survive the end of all things. A passenger list was made of multi-disciplinarian scientists and other experts who would help restore the human race and human civilization, should they manage to survive. As a head of state, T'Challa personally approached the White House and informed the President that they, that everyone, were going to die a few hours from now. He encouraged the President to make an announcement so that the people of the world had time to say good-bye to those who mattered. Overcome, the President challenged T'Challa that the heroes had failed to save them. T'Challa replied that the world had failed him when they handed Wakanda over to the Cabal. It was only fitting that he return the favor. [Time Runs Out]

The final Incursion erupted in an all-out war between Earth-616 and Earth-1610 in the skies over New York. Many friends and allies were lost trying to fill the life raft's cabin. When the final Incursion ended, and reality crumbled around it, the passenger cabin was struck and lost. Black Panther had to restrain Reed Richards as he watched his friends, his wife and his children annihilated in non-space. [Secret Wars #1]
