Separated from S.H.I.E.L.D., Daisy met up with other free agents Mockingbird and the Winter Soldier at an isolated American diner, prepared to make their own way in the world. [Secret Avengers (2nd series) #16] Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, had recently inherited the role of Man on the Wall from Nick Fury, Daisy's former mentor. He stood alone as a first strike defender of Earth from threats from space. With Nick believed dead, Bucky wanted to continue on with his work, and asked Daisy to work with him on his space-based missions. [Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier #1]

Quake and the Winter Soldier spent time on the planet Mer-Z-Bow, populated by a race of telepaths in possession of a potent drug named illum. Daisy was secretly met by a divergent future version of Bucky, who warned her that Bucky would fall in love with the queen of Mer-Z-Bow, only to be killed. They were opposed by Crossbones, a nihilistic soldier with a grudge from future Bucky's timeline. Daisy was caught off-guard and stabbed by Crossbones, but she held herself together and drove him off. Quake pursued him to his world-gun base to finish what she started. The threat was dealt with, as Crossbones and future Bucky fled back to their own timeline. Plus, she got to ride a sapient pterodactyl. That was cool. [Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier #2-11]

When her time in space was over, Daisy returned to Earth to discover her genetic structure breaking down. The unstable nature of the proto-Hyde formula she inherited from her father's genes was finally acting up. She experienced facial scarring, unstable mood swings and her bones began to fracture under the vibratory force of her own powers. To cope with this, Daisy reconnected with S.H.I.E.L.D. and began working with Agent Phil Coulson and his field team. Through them, Daisy tracked down Mr. Hyde in the hopes that he could arrest her deterioration. Daisy and Calvin Zabo had a less than cordial reunion, with Daisy meeting her father for the first time as an adult.

With his Hyde transformations shut down, Calvin Zabo proved alert and helpful in the face of Daisy's plight. As his work was monitored by S.H.I.E.L.D. scientists Fitz and Simmons, Zabo came up with a treatment that would save Daisy's life and reverse the changes she had been going through. Zabo was true to his word and saved Daisy, but also used the same treatment to override the counter-measures used against him, and transformed back into Hyde. He intended to inject Daisy with the same Hyde formula, in an insane ambition to make them a family again by forcing his changes upon her. Phil Coulson used the Hyde formula on himself instead, fighting Zabo hand-to-hand until Daisy recovered from her treatment. Quake unleashed her earthquake powers and left Hyde buried in a crevice. [S.H.I.E.L.D. (3rd series) #7]

Back with S.H.I.E.L.D. on a full-time basis, Quake refrained from claiming any higher position in the agency and instead worked under field director Coulson with his team of agents. [All-New Marvel Point One #1] Because of her heritage, Daisy also served as S.H.I.E.L.D.'s liaison officer to the nation of New Attilan. After Attilan fell and the Terrigen cloud burst forth and began moving over the planet, many people like Daisy with latent Inhuman potential were being activated, becoming NuHumans. Daisy worked with Queen Medusa and coordinated with Crystal, who was leading a squad of Inhumans aboard the RIV to provided aid to Inhumans around the world affected by Terrigen, and recruit them if possible. [All-New Inhumans #2-4]

Relationships were strained when Quake's S.H.I.E.L.D. team worked to hunt down the Axiom quantum drive, a collection of files listing strategies and weaknesses to use against each of the world's super-heroes. Daisy's superior, Agent Coulson, had been responsible for compiling these files against his will thanks to a telepathic Pentagon agent who got close to him to ferret out the intel. These Coulson Protocols were then stolen from the Department of Defense, and so Coulson and Daisy's team intervened to prevent anyone from getting their hands on this information, including Hydra and the D.O.D. The Coulson Protocols were temporarily in play, but S.H.I.E.L.D. manage to shut them down and prevent any lasting harm. Quake was targeted during the Protocols, however, and Daisy recognized this meant Phil had spent time dreaming up ways to counter and eliminate his own teammates if necessary. [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1-6]

This breach of trust led to Daisy resigning from Agent Coulson's field team, asking Maria Hill for a transfer to other duties. This happened just before Phil Coulson was ousted from S.H.I.E.L.D. himself after he stood up to Maria Hill and Carol Danvers for their haphazard Ulysses Initiative, using a precognitive asset to target threats before they happened. Despite their chilly relationship, Coulson recruited Daisy and Leo Fitz to help him come at the Ulysses Initiative from another angle. The led to the two groups of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents being at odds with one another, with Daisy and Fitz going on the run when Coulson was captured and incarcerated for his interference. In the end, however, the Ulysses Initiative ended and Maria Hill acknowledged Coulson was only doing what he thought was right. He was allowed back into S.H.I.E.L.D. as a valued asset, and Daisy and Fitz returned as well. For the most part, Daisy and Coulson repaired their relationship after this. [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. #7-10]

Quake remained on the outskirts of Inhuman culture. The Terrigen cloud proved toxic to mutants, creating a disease dubbed M-Pox upon exposure. When the X-Men learned the Terrigen cloud was going to break up and saturate the entire atmosphere, they staged a pre-emptive strike on New Attilan, the Royal Family of Inhumans, and other known Inhuman assets in order to clear their way to eliminate the cloud. Quake was contacted by the Avengers' young NuHuman member Ms. Marvel along with a number of other diverse NuHumans to rally to the cause. When they learned the reason behind the mutants' attack, however, Quake and the NuHumans recognized the stakes. They helped Forge rebuild his Terrigen eater device, but left the decision to Queen Medusa. She decided to destroy the cloud rather than allow more innocent lives to be lost. [IVX #3-6]

In time, Quake was reallocated in S.H.I.E.L.D. to a new field unit, dubbed Moth Squadron since several members were from Nick Fury's Caterpillar Files, including Daisy's old friend, Yo-Yo. Shortly after Steve Rogers ascended over Maria Hill as director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Moth Squadron was sent on a recon mission that turned bad. They were ambushed by the Wrecking Crew, and Daisy's entire team was killed. She only escaped because Yo-Yo sacrificed herself tossing Quake to safety before falling before the Crew. The situation stank of an inside job, and Daisy refused to come back in to the Helicarrier. Instead, she contacted Agent Coulson independently, raising her suspicions that Steve Rogers set her up. Coulson asked her to lay low while he dug up some evidence, and they arranged a meeting for a few days out.
