Title began as a team-up series in which heroes with their own series would unite against a common foe as "Earth's Mightiest Heroes." Although characters with their own series would continue to be members, the Avengers series became its own, ongoing story with a rotating cast.
The series inspited multiple spin-offs titled, miniseries and crossovers. A breakdown of the history of these publications can be found in our Avengers Primer article.
The first Avengers series ran for 33 years before it was canceled and relaunched as part of the Heroes Reborn event, in which it and three other titles were relaunched with fresh continuity for "reimagined" stories.
