The students went through quite an ordeal battling the Avengers’ cosmic foe, Korvac the Enemy, and the teachers decided they needed an outlet. [Avengers Academy #10-12] Avengers Academy had its first super-hero prom, with Tigra and Giant-Man as chaperones. They got to talking, and Hank was curious how Greer and his imposter got “back together,” given how poorly their relationship ended during the West Coast days. As it turned out, the Skrull copied Hank’s personality so perfectly, he ended up saying exactly the things Pym never had the nerve to tell Greer himself. One thing led to another, and soon Greer and Hank had left the party to go back to her quarters, alone. It was prom night, after all. [Avengers Academy #13]

The Asgardian God of Fear, the Serpent, created a worldwide chaos event by triggering a breakout at the Raft, arming seven Worthy with hammers equal to Thor, and teaming with the Red Skull’s daughter and her Thule Society for unprecedented carnage. The Avengers were spread thin dealing with outbreaks of violence, and the time came when the Avengers Academy students were forced into the fray. Blitzkrieg U.S.A. came when Nazi armored mechs attacked Washington D.C. Tigra led the students in overseeing crisis management and evacuation of innocents through the mansion’s dimensional doors, but they inevitably became part of the conflict. Veil and Mettle were shellshocked after having to kill in battle, and two of the Worthy followed them back to the Infinite Avengers Mansion, leading to the destruction of their extra-dimensional base. Avengers Academy needed to change and evolve. [Fear Itself event]

The Serpent War was a traumatic experience for the students, and Veil decided she had had enough. She chose to leave Avengers Academy to join the morally ambiguous philanthropist Jeremy Briggs in using her powers for something other than crime-fighting. Tigra could not support her decision at all, and Greer and Hank decided on the new direction of Avengers Academy. They decided the isolation of the Infinite Avengers Mansion was a poor choice in hindsight and planned to reopen the Academy on the grounds of the old Avengers Compound outside Los Angeles, letting their students interact more with the real world. They also expanded the class size, allowing more than a dozen teen and former teen super-heroes to attend Academy classes and seminars for their benefit. The nostalgia of Palos Verdes even prompted Giant-Man to admit he was in love with Tigra, and she accepted his declaration wholeheartedly. [Avengers Academy #20]

Tigra sent William away to live with the Cat People for a time, making sure he had the full experience of his heritage. After the destruction of their last school, it may have made sense to keep a young child away from the Academy, but Greer still missed her son. The increased class size at Avengers Academy allowed Tigra the chance to flex her claws with students who had a similar fighting style, like X-23 and White Tiger. However, Veil was not the last to question the Avengers Academy model. Jocasta also chose to leave the school behind and join Jeremy Briggs’ initiative, and together she and Veil convinced several of the newer students to come with them. Tigra and Giant-Man didn’t trust Briggs, but they did their best to defend the Avengers’ record and the value of their Academy while still allowing their students to make their own choices in life. [Avengers Academy #21-26]

Tigra and Giant-Man kept the wheels spinning at Avengers Academy as best they could. They struggled during a visit from the Runaways, super-powered minors living on their own in the world after their super-villain parents died. Greer and Hank gave some leeway to the older teens, but the group’s younger members Molly and Klara were only about twelve. They were prepared to force the Runaways to stay at Avengers Academy for their own good, or send them back into child services. A compromise was reached after Nico Minoru crafted a spell that literally allowed everyone present to experience each other’s point of view. Tigra saw how Klara (a time traveler from 1907) was forced into an abusive marriage with an adult man despite her age, making her highly distrustful of adult authority. The teachers agreed to send a tutor robot with the Runaways to make sure the kids got an education, and a promise to check in with the Academy regularly. [Avengers Academy #27-28]

It was difficult to maintain Avengers Academy’s regular schedule during the Phoenix crisis between the Avengers and X-Men. Cyclops’ students were sent to Avengers Academy to be detained while the two super-teams were at war. Tigra ultimately refused to hold the students against their will and allowed them to escape. After the Phoenix Five declared war on the Avengers, Tigra and Giant-Man decided it would be unsafe to keep the Academy open as a target by association. They arranged to send the students home or to other locations as Avengers Academy shut down. [Avengers vs. X-Men crossover]

Shortly after the Academy restarted classes, Tigra and Giant-Man decided to “graduate” the original students in recognition for their growth and experiences. They received official status and clearance in the Avengers organization, with focus moving on to newer students. [Avengers Academy #38-39] However, Avengers Academy never reached the same level of prominence again. Half of the original students were kidnapped by Arcade to compete in his Murderworld for weeks, leading to several deaths and lasting trauma for the survivors. Tigra and Hank kept the Academy open, but subsequent students weren’t as interested in full-time education as expected. [Avengers Arena #13] The occasional classes or seminars continued on campus for a time, but eventually Avengers Academy quietly shut its doors behind-the-scenes. Tigra’s reaction to this is undisclosed, as is her immediate response to Giant-Man essentially dying when he forcibly merged with his insane creation, Ultron. [Avengers: Rage of Ultron]

Not much was seen of Tigra in the months that followed. Some of her former students got involved with the Masters of Evil in Bagalia while seeking revenge on Arcade. They accidentally drew Tigra and several of their former teachers into a trap temporarily. [Avengers Undercover #9-10] She-Hulk and Hellcat also contacted Tigra over the mysterious Blue File, a single legal document indicating Jennifer, Greer and several other parties were once sued in North Dakota for an adventure none of them remembered. When Patsy questioned Greer about the case, she triggered a post-hypnotic suggestion which caused Tigra to lash out at Hellcat before attempting to jump to her death. Greer survived, but she wasn’t involved at the resolution of the mystery. [She-Hulk (3rd series) #5-6]

Tigra had intermittent appearances as an Avengers’ reservist. She and a large contingent of heroes were trapped in subatomic space when the inverted Avengers seized power after World War Hate. [Avengers & X-Men: Axis #5] She later worked with Hawkeye and Black Widow’s underground movement when Hydra conducted a takeover of America. They operated out of the Pantheon’s isolated base, the Mount, before it was destroyed by the Hulk. [Secret Empire crossover] Afterwards, Tigra was targeted by M.O.D.O.K. and experimented on, turning her into a 50-foot tall rampaging kaiju along with several other young women in Los Angeles. Clint Barton and the junior Hawkeye Kate Bishop put together a new West Coast Avengers around that time and managed to restore Greer’s senses. Tigra was grateful, but she had no desire to join a new team of Whackos, especially one funded by Reality TV money. [West Coast Avengers (3rd series) #1-4]
