Bobbi had been having a rough time lately, but she had a surprising ray of sunshine enter her life. While fighting the A.I.M. scientist Monica Rappaccini in New York, Mockingbird was aided by the teenagers currently using the names Ms. Marvel and Wasp. Although they initially made her feel old, Bobbi formed a connection with the girls over smoothies afterwards. This Wasp was Nadia, the daughter of Hank Pym from his first marriage, raised in the Red Room as an assassin. Despite her upbringing, Nadia was filled with unbridled optimism and a desire to do good in the world. She was delighted to meet Bobbi, not as the super-hero/spy Mockingbird, but as the biologist Barbara Morse whose work in science helped inspire her. Bobbi was teary eyed for being remembered for her mind, and she in turn inspired Nadia to found Genius In action Research Labs, or G.I.R.L., to encourage other young women with an interest in the sciences. Meanwhile, the Zodiac investigation continued with S.H.I.E.L.D. and Parker Industries. Spider-Man uncovered that one of his major shareholders, Vernon Jacobs, was actually Scorpio, explaining Zodiac's inside information about the company. Mockingbird and S.H.I.E.L.D. came together to help Spider-Man confront Scorpio as he prepared to unlock a gateway into the future with the Zodiac Key. Jacobs intended to only absorb knowledge from the gate, but Spider-Man forced him through it instead, literally knocking him into next year. With 365 days on the clock before Scorpio returned, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Parker Industries had plenty of time to plan for him. Bobbi and Peter had gotten closer during her time as liaison, and their banter started to turn towards actual flirting. [Amazing Spider-Man (4th series) #10-11] When Peter Parker reopened the old Coffee Bean for his friends and family, he invited Bobbi along as a "work colleague," although his Aunt May wasn't fooled for a moment. For her part, Bobbi joked it was about time for another ex-husband. [Amazing Spider-Man (4th series) #15]

When Spider-Man got a tip that his old nemesis Norman Osborn was operating as an arms dealer in Delvada, he worked with Mockingbird to coordinate with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Delvadan government to remove the terrorist from that country. Despite the assistance of the national heroes Tarantula and Devil Spider, however, they only learned that Osborn had been posing as the local crimelord Warthog -- the real Warthog was oblivious to Osborn's activity using his name. Peter and Bobbi flew to Hong Kong for an Uncle Ben Foundation charity event while also planning on hitting the streets for more intel on Osborn's network. On the plane over, Peter awkwardly started asking Bobbi on a date before being interrupted by his Aunt May. In Hong Kong, Spider-Man and Mockingbird learned Osborn would be AT the Foundation gala, and they rushed to defend the guests. [Amazing Spider-Man (4th series) #25]

As Osborn and his Goblin Army revealed themselves, Spider-Man and Mockingbird engaged the enemy. They were joined by Silver Sable, whose own country of Symkaria was also suffering under Osborn's unique brand of evil. Bobbi tried calling S.H.I.E.L.D. for back-up during a chase through the streets, but instead received the opposite of help. Nick Fury told her this was unsanctioned activity on foreign soil of a country that had not asked for S.H.I.E.L.D.'s involvement. Mockingbird got orders forcing her to fall back and abandon the chase, leaving Spider-Man and Silver Sable to pursue Osborn alone.

Tensions only grew between S.H.I.E.L.D. and Spider-Man when Parker learned what was happening in Symkaria. The royal Countess Katarina Karkov had assumed control of Symkaria in Silver Sable's absence, making deals with Osborn that effectively made the Symkarians into slave labor and test subjects for his arms manufacturing. Spider-Man lent the aid of Parker Industries and its technological resources to help Sable overthrow Karkov and Osborn. This amounted to a political coup of an officially recognized government, forcing S.H.I.E.L.D. to cut all ties with Parker Industries and actively oppose Spider-Man's invasion of another country. Mockingbird was ordered onto the strike team by Nick Fury, but she ultimately chose to side with Peter. Bobbi turned in her S.H.I.E.L.D. credentials and joined up with Silver Sable's Wild Pack during the strike on the capital. The coup was successful, and the villains were removed from power, but Mockingbird and Spider-Man remained blackballed from S.H.I.E.L.D. [Amazing Spider-Man (4th series) #26-28]

Mockingbird was one of the heroes who remained outside the Darkforce dome in New York when Hydra took over America. They were drawn to D.C. at first, but were cowed by the spectacle of Captain America being revealed as the secret Hydra Supreme. When Thor was banished by the new Madame Hydra and Cap claimed Mjolnir, apparently still Worthy, Spider-Man declared a retreat. As the various remaining heroes scattered to regroup later, Mockingbird and Spider-Man parted ways. Peter needed to ensure Parker Industries tech didn't fall into the wrong hands, so he separated from the rest. Bobbi and Peter shared a passionate kiss as they separated, and Bobbi promised Peter they would finally go on that date he awkwardly asked for, if they ever saved the world. [Amazing Spider-Man (4th series) #30]

A small population of resistance fighters and dissidents gathered under the command of Hawkeye and Black Widow at the Mount in the Nevada desert. When it was learned Hydra was searching for fragments of the Cosmic Cube to consolidate their rule, Mockingbird lead a team of heroes searching the world for the fragments to use them first. Bobbi remained a spy and pragmatist in how she operated. Maria Hill was excommunicated from the resistance after her "scorched earth" methods led to countless civilian deaths on a mission in St. Louis. Mockingbird nonetheless remained in touch with Hill, coordinating their operations with her for the greater good. [Secret Empire event]

After the fall of Hydra, S.H.I.E.L.D. was considered too tainted by association to Fake Cap's rise to continue. With the agency dissolved, many of its tech and resources were at risk for being picked up by dangerous parties. Mockingbird coordinated with Spider-Man, Silk, Husk and several other operatives to clean up S.H.I.E.L.D.'s messes in the aftermath. [Spider-Man / Deadpool #23-40] Still, it was mostly unpaid freelance work, which didn't pay the bills. Bobbi got a new job at Humanitech Robotics, Inc. organizing security in the meantime. She and Peter Parker started dating as they promised, but Parker had fallen on hard times. Parker Industries suffered numerous setbacks after the Symkarian incident, and many of their assets were destroyed by Spider-Man to keep them out of Hydra's hands in the takeover. With his company a bust, Parker was unemployed and crashing on Bobbi's couch, hardly the mostly auspicious start for their relationship. [Amazing Spider-Man (1st series) #789]

Mockingbird's job at Humanitech fell through when she and Spider-Man discovered the new A.I. being developed by the company was actually the enslaved consciousness of an illegally-detained super-villain. [Amazing Spider-Man (1st series) #791] She and Peter flew to England to deal with the return of Scorpio, whose lost year was up as he emerged from the Zodiac vault. On the flight back, though, the couple found themselves completely lost for conversation. Without talk about work or super-heroics to fill the air, they discovered they basically had nothing in common. Their break-up was awkward, but mutual, and Peter moved out while Bobbi left to pursue a new job opportunity on the west coast [Amazing Spider-Man (1st series) #794-795]

Mockingbird continued working closely with G.I.R.L., as she and Janet van Dyne acted as den mothers for the group of young geniuses. Bobbi often sparred with Ying, Nadia's best friend and another escapee from the Red Room, helping her talk through her project ideas while training in hand-to-hand at the same time. Jan also got Bobbi a special treat when she sponsored their security team Poundcakes and Letha for a UCWF match. The theme of the night was the Skrull Kill Krew, with Poundcakes and Letha declaring their opponents Skrulls and beating the green out of them. Bobbi liked it very much. Monica Rappaccini remained a threat to GIRL, gathering her own young female A.I.M. in defiance of Nadia and Jan. After the wrestling match, Bobbi and Jan found A.I.M. attacking G.I.R.L., and Bobbi suffered a broken leg in the fighting that followed. Her Super-Soldier conditioning allowed her to heal quickly, however. [Unstoppable Wasp (2nd series) #1-3]

Hoping to help the girls deal with their past, Mockingbird recruited Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, to work with her. As the Soldier, Bucky had ties to the Red Room and had been responsible for recruiting Ying as a child. When Nadia's mother allegedly began reaching out to her from a black site, she asked Bobbi and Bucky to investigate. They infiltrated an old Red Room bunker, and were nearly overcome by Mother's cyborg attackers. Nadia's mother turned out to be a ruse, but Mockingbird and Winter Soldier were able to help Ying learn about what she really came from, before the Red Room took her. [Unstoppable Wasp (2nd series) #4-10]

Mockingbird remains freelance after the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D., operating independently of any central authority. She was recruited by Sharon Carter to be part of a female strike team known as the Daughters of Liberty. They helped free Captain America after he was framed for murder, and continue investigating other signs of rot in the American Dream. [Captain America (8th series) #7] T'Challa the Black Panther also reached out to her as chairman of the Avengers, offering Bobbi a spot on his investigative spy unit, the Agents of Wakanda. Alongside Jan and other trained agents, Bobbi accepted the part-time work from him as well. [Black Panther and the Agents of Wakanda #3-4] Often restless, but never bored, Barbara Morse will continue fighting the good fight for any group willing to "listen to the Mockingbird."
