Justice and Firestar were present when their teammate Rage was attacked by Asgardian creatures, and so came with him to Avengers Mansion once the call went out for all former Avengers to assemble and deal with the threat. After performing well against Morgan le Fey and Whirlwind, Angelica and Vance were championed for membership by the senior Avenger, Hawkeye, and were inducted into the team as reservists. A Captain America fan-boy since he was a child, this was a dream come true for Vance, but Angelica was much less enthusiastic about the Avengers. She mostly just went along because it meant so much to Vance. [Avengers (3rd series) #1-4]

The duo were soon called for active duty against the Kree Lunatic Legion on the Blue Area of the Moon. During the fight, the Kree's Omni-Wave Projector was activated and pointed at Earth, threatening all human life on the planet. Unable to disable the device, the Avengers planned to launch it into another dimension using a portal generated by Thor's hammer. When the Legion's leader pulled Thor away into combat, however, the portal began to collapse. The overeager Justice quickly volunteered Firestar to charge up and maintain the portal, since she once did something similar with a Shi'ar stargate. Angel felt betrayed that Vance so cavalierly suggested she risk her health by using her microwave powers at that level, but with the planet at risk there was no time to debate. Firestar maintained the portal long enough for the projector to be neutralized, and hesitantly accepted Justice's apology when the dust settled. [Avengers (3rd series) #7]

Angel continued to struggle with the Avengers lifestyle Vance had pulled them into. When Janet van Dyne took it upon herself to redesign Justice and Firestar's costumes, the suit she provided revealed far, far more than Angelica was comfortable with. So when Vance first suggested moving into the mansion together (instead of him rooming with Namorita and Angel still living at home with her father), Angelica opposed the idea. Still, Firestar started to warm to the team after confiding in the Scarlet Witch about her microwave problems. Wanda arranged a consult with Hank Pym and, within a few weeks, he apparently solved Angelica's problem. Doctor Pym designed a bio-circuitry suit to wear under her costume that would absorb excess microwave energy from her system and use it to kickstart the natural microwave immunity her X-gene had the potential for. To Firestar, who had resigned herself to having this problem for life, it had the appearance of a miracle. And after seeing the valor the Avengers displayed in what appeared to be a hopeless battle against the Grim Reaper and his Legion of the Unliving, Angelica truly began to see what Vance saw in these heroes. With her newfound appreciation for the Avengers, Firestar made arrangements with her father and took Justice up on his earlier offer to move into Avengers Mansion. [Avengers (3rd series) #13] Unfortunately, Angel's enthusiasm was on the rise just as Vance's was dwindling. The pressure of performing in the "big leagues" had been weighing on Justice, making every minor error or mistake feel like a colossal blunder in his mind. He confessed his doubts on remaining with the team to Angel, but she encouraged him to overcome his hesitation and stay the course. [Avengers (3rd series) #14] Unfortunately, Justice soon suffered a series of injuries in battle while trying to prove himself, making his self-doubt grow even stronger. Firestar's greatest trial as an Avenger came when the hateful robot Ultron assaulted the nation of Slorenia, slaughtering the entire population in a matter of hours. With Justice sidelined by his injuries and more than half the team captured by Ultron's advance assaults, Firestar ended up standing shoulder-to-shoulder with only the Black Panther and the Avengers' Big Three as the advance guard for the entire armed peacekeeping force sent in by the United Nations. Despite such intimidating company, Angelica fought valiantly during the Slorenian invasion. Even when facing down thousands of Ultron duplicates, and with her protective suit too damaged to be working properly, Firestar never relented as the Avengers fought their way through to Ultron and helped free their comrades. Ultimately, however, it was Justice who made all the difference in the fight. His tireless research back at the mansion provided the key to defeating Ultron, and he crossed an ocean despite his injuries to deliver it. Ultron and Vance's "stage fright" were both vanquished in a single afternoon. [Avengers (3rd series) #19-22]

Having proven himself an Avenger, however, Vance soon came to realize how much he had been neglecting his relationship with Angelica when his attention was focused elsewhere. After a few more weeks, Vance and Angel decided to take a leave of absence from the team and the constant crises. The Wasp offered them use of her family villa on Cap D'Antibes, and the young couple left the Avengers as members in good standing to renew their plans for marriage. [Avengers (3rd series) #27]

Or, so it seemed. Not long after they left, Justice and Firestar were secretly recruited by Iron Man to infiltrate the new age religion called the Triune Understanding. In recent months, the Triunes had seemingly been behind a public relations campaign against the Avengers for reasons no one could identify. Without any real proof, Iron Man wanted Vance and Angelica to pose as new converts for the Triune Understanding to see what they could uncover. As worldwide war with Kang the Conqueror began, however, the Triunes and Avengers ended up joining forces, and the Triune leader Jonathon Tremont revealed he knew of Vance and Angel's deception all along. Although Tremont in the end did prove to be corrupt, the power of the Triunes ultimately assisted the Avengers against Kang, and Justice and Firestar fought alongside Captain America's forces in the final battle before returning to the Avengers reserves. Happily ever after wasn't in the cards for Angelica and Vance, however. With her immediate health no longer a concern, Angel began to regret pushing up their "someday" plans. As a freshman art major at NYU, Angel was living in the dorms with her friend Jupiter, looking to enjoy her college days with friends and classes. But while Angelica was no longer in a hurry to "grow up," Vance was still pushing forward on the wedding plans: invitations, caterers, etc. As Angel began to pull back from the wedding planning, Vance pushed that much harder to compensate. They eventually reached a breaking point when Angelica overslept after a night partying with Jupes and missed their appointment with the minister. Angel confessed to Vance that she wanted to take a step back instead of rushing into marriage. Vance felt rejected by her, and refused to be part of a relationship going in reverse. Angry and unable to find middle ground, Vance and Angelica's relationship crumbled before their eyes, and they found themselves permanently broken up, almost before they even realized it was happening. Angelica's super-hero life as Firestar soon reached a breaking point as well. Although she survived the Decimation with her mutant powers intact, Firestar was taken aback by the ramifications of the Superhuman Registration Act when it was proposed. She did an interview with Sally Floyd of The Alternative shortly before the Act was passed. Angelica lamented the loss of privacy, the potential threat to her family and friends, and the fear of being drafted without her consent if she did register. Angel's fears were legitimate, not only after the Poison Memories' attack on her father, but because of the New Warriors' involvement in the Stamford tragedy. The Warriors were literally being burned in effigy around the country, and the DestroyAllWarriors website had been publishing their secret identities online prior to the Act's passage. Several Warriors were already attacked in the streets thanks to the website, and Firestar's secret identity was "coming soon" when She-Hulk and some other New Warriors shut it down. Faced with all these problems, Angelica decided to retire "Firestar" prior to the Act's deadline, leaving her life as a super-hero behind her instead of choosing to fight for or against the Act.
