Despite her successful work with the Avengers, once the Kang Dynasty ended, Firebird departed Avengers Mansion and presumably returned to her mission work in New Mexico. However, when the Avengers were struck by another crisis, Bonita answered the “Once an Avenger” call and returned to Avengers Mansion to assist against invading Kree. Nevertheless, once the crisis was passed, she returned home. [Avengers (1st series) #501-502]

Bonita found herself mysteriously transported aboard a spacecraft along with Hank Pym, the Wasp and several other heroes and villains. They were all told by a voice “from beyond” that if they slew their enemies, all they desired would be theirs. Firebird was especially skeptical about the announcement. The group soon came into contact with Dragon Man and Deathlok, the former of whom quickly attacked the latter to fulfill the voice’s directive. Firebird selflessly came between the two, taking the brunt of Dragon Man's fire attack. She re-purposed the flame that she absorbed as a large firebird, and then re-directed it at the Dragon Man, taking him out. When the group was camped out on an alien world, Bonita observed Hank and the Wasp leave for a private discussion. The former spouses were still very much estranged and Bonita witnessed firsthand an argument between the two. Bonita later offered Hank some more advice, which she punctuated with a kiss. At first Hank seemed surprised, but he quickly kissed Bonita back, their old attractions at least somewhat rekindled.

Firebird, Hank and the others soon devised a plan, exposing their foe not as the Beyonder but the Stranger, who had gathered them to observe humanity. Ultimately, the Stranger abandoned his plan and departed but in doing so released whatever force held this new Battleworld together. One of the super-beings, the young hero called Gravity, was able to hold the planet together long enough for Firebird, Hank, the Wasp and the others to escape back to Earth. Tragically, the exertion proved too great and the young hero died in the process. Firebird held Gravity's body in her arms as they were transported back to Earth and later attended his funeral at Hank's side. [Beyond! #1-6]

When a civil war broke out amongst the super human community over the Superhuman Registration Act, Firebird returned to active duty. Initially, she did so after registering as a licensed super hero as the lay demanded. However, following the death of Bill Foster, Bonita’s conscience got the better of her and she opposed enforcement of the law, ultimately joining Captain America's Secret Avengers. [Civil War (1st series) #4-7] Following the end of the war, Firebird, along with dozens of other heroes, accepted amnesty and was placed into the Fifty State Initiative. Once again, she became a member of the Rangers, now the SHIELD-sponsored team assigned to Texas. [Civil War Battle Damage Report #1] During the Initiative, Firebird and the Rangers battled Hydra operatives [Avengers: The Initiative #2] and when the Skrull infiltration was discovered the Rangers were confronted with the fact that Red Wolf's faithful wolf Lobo had been replaced by a Skrull. When the Rangers discovered the crowd of civilians watching them was also filled with Skrull impostors, they fought them as well. As they did so, Firebird reminded the civilians that they tried to tell them that the Skrulls infiltrated them, not the heroes. When most of the Rangers joined in the final confrontation against the Skrulls in New York, Firebird remained in Texas. [Avengers: The Initiative #19]

Even when the Initiative was shut down, the Rangers continued to operate as a team in Texas. Mistaking the Scarlet Spider a.k.a. Kaine for a criminal breaking into Roxxon headquarters, the Rangers confronted him. Kaine, however, was simply trying to find out the truth about an explosion that happened at the headquarters the previous day. The incident had resulted in him meeting Zoe Walsh, daughter of Roxxon's CEO David Walsh, who told him that something sinister was taking place on one of Roxxon's oilrigs. Though Kaine escaped, the Rangers tracked him and Zoe to one of the Roxxon refineries. When the Ranger called Fifty-One used his (or its) power to break up the ground there, they discovered dozens of bodies. Firebird and Living Lightning were especially disturbed that all of the bodies were indigenous American.

Exploring the facility further, the heroes stumbled across a lab where a large energy creature was being held. Called Mammon, the creature had been found by Roxxon while drilling beneath the Earth's crust and the company had been providing human hosts to keep it producing energy. Since it burned through them quickly, Roxxon had been abducting Mexican Cartel members and providing them as “fuel.” When Walsh then arrived to shut down the situation, Firebird, the Rangers and Kaine had to deal not only with Mammon but Walsh and his armed operatives. When Mammon took over Walsh's body and attacked the heroes, Kaine was able to trap him in a large oil tank. In the explosion that followed, the Rangers feared Kaine dead and Firebird said a prayer for him. However, Kaine soon resurfaced, having escaped the explosion with Walsh, who was not dead but comatose. Roxxon denied all involvement and, when the Rangers invited Kaine to join them, he told them they were high. [Scarlet Spider (2nd series) #7-9]

Firebird continues to work alongside the Rangers and maintains her ties with the Avengers [Captain America (7th series) #25], serving her people and her country with the compassion and dignity she has always.
