Hera had kidnapped Aegis, champion of Athena and murdered him. She used the young hero's corpse as a lure for Athena and Hercules before springing a trap with her allies within the Olympus group. Her opportunity was stolen when Osborn and his Dark Avengers attacked her. Typhon had a score to settle with Hera's son Ares, who was among the Dark Avengers line up. When Typhon got the advantage on Ares, Hera intervened to protect him but was attacked from behind by Osborn. The battle from the three groups damaged a nearby cruise liner and the Dark Avengers, still masquerading as “heroes,” were forced to interject and save innocent lives. While Osborn was preoccupied, Ares negotiated an agreement with his mother. Hera agreed that she would liaise with Osborn before rolling out the Continuum product. Should he fail to agree to her terms, however, she would declare war. Ares advised he would ally with his mother should Osborn refuse. Osborn told Hera that he had only attacked her because he had been told she had already begun the rollout of Continuum. With this information, Hera knew she had a traitor in her midst: Hebe. While Hera was preoccupied with the Dark Avengers, Hercules, Athena and Cho had fled. [Incredible Hercules #127-128]
Hera tracked Hebe down and confronted her. She was furious with her daughter for ruining her plans and manipulating the Dark Avengers into attacking her. Hebe stated she felt she had no choice, as Hera was trying to kill her husband, and she questioned what other duty was more important than that of a wife. Hera disagreed and told Hebe that her main duty was to “listen to her mother,” as she knocked her out of a skyscapper. Hera's rampage was interrupted by the current queen of the Amazons, Delphyne Gorgon. Delphyne was disgusted by Hera's aggression towards Hebe and raised a gun at her. Hera called out the Gorgon for her hypocrisy, stating as an Amazon she preached about sisterhood but she hated the goddess, Athena herself due to the curse placed on her bloodline. Hera, possibly projecting, said she could not sympathize with Hebe for her “betrayal” of her for a husband who had neglected and cheated on her for three thousand years. She also told her daughter that, as the goddess of youth, she was cursed by unquenchable hope that Hercules would never sate. After this “betrayal,” Hera disowned Hebe and promised death to Delphyne should she ever raise a gun to her again. [Incredible Hercules #129]
With Hercules and Athena temporarily out of her reach and Hebe no threat, Hera focused on Ares. She had her brother Hades resurrect her grandson Kyknos, son of Ares. His goal was to kill his father, whom Hera felt had spurned her. This was another contradictory moment for Hera, given their most recent exchange, but like so many of her plans it was not successful anyway and Kyknos went back to the grave soon after by Ares hand. While in bed with Typhon, Hera experienced a prophecy that the chaos and nothingness that existed in the beginning was going to return. She felt that her husband's killer Mikaboshi was returning to destroy them all. Surprisingly, Hera's alliance with Osborn survived her assassination attempt of Ares and she called him to inform him it was now time to unleash Continuum. Hera had Osborn send his investors to the headquarters of Olympus, where she revealed what Continuum was. Essentially, it was a means in which she would cause an extinction level event and restart the world in her image. [Assault on New Olympus – Prologue #1]
While Hera was busy, Hercules had reconciled with Hebe and then assembled a team of Avengers (Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Quicksilver, Hank Pym, US Agent and Jocasta) to oppose his stepmother. Their plan involved having Hebe meet with Hera, while the team hid a ship in the bracelet on her wrist, shrunk down by Pym particles. Hera apologized to Hebe for her act of aggression, previously stating that as a patron goddess of marriage herself she really should have respected Hebe for standing by her husband. She also considered it fortuitous that Hebe had appeared at this moment, as she had already summoned her siblings: Hephaestus (who was already aligned with Hera at this point) and her sister Eris, who was on en-route as was her brother Ares, Ares ultimately did not make it, however, as he was seduced by Aphrodite at Athena's request. Hera confessed that, after the death of Zeus, she had lost all attachment to this reality and wanted to restart creation again by killing everyone in this universe. At this point, Hebe's betrayal was discovered by one of Hera's lieutenants, who was observing them through cameras and noticed the bracelet. Believing that Hebe had smuggled the enemy on her body in this tiny ship, Hera lashed out and knocked Hebe through a wall. As she did that, an ambulance appeared on the scene to tend to the injured Hebe. This was in fact the Avengers strike force that included not only Hercules but Athena and a resurrected child Zeus.
Hera was shocked to see the young version of her husband Zeus and had Typhon grab him as they fled to a sealed chamber. Hera told Zeus that she had built Continuum for him. It was essentially a bubble universe that was an exact replica of their own, except it was empty and would be presided over by her. Hera's Continuum was simply a product for a capitalist world, the only thing that mortals nowadays truly worshiped. The product caused humans to experience “blind faith.” When fully activated, she intended to lead her family and her new worshipers to this new creation, which would destroy the old one in the process, erasing (she believed) her pain, sorrow and humiliation. The neophyte version of Zeus was able to acknowledge the pain he had caused Hera and how he had essentially created this situation. He apologized to his wife, saying that they should take this second chance to do things right; no more other women, no more neglect. Hera dropped to the ground, saying that was all she wanted. In tears, she plead with Typhon to turn off Continuum before it was too late. Typhon, however, had his own agenda all along and wanted to use the power of Continuum to kill all the gods. Hera and Zeus united again and opposed Typhon but he lashed out and blew Hera's head off her shoulders. Zeus soon fell to Typhon too. Hera and Zeus were then taken to the Underworld by the god of death, Thanatos, finally reunited in love in the ever after. [Incredible Hercules #138-141]
