Deadpool and Preston consulted with Doctor Strange about finding a new body for Emily to inhabit. Unfortunately, while Strange knew a number of soul-migration spells, finding the proper receptacle to house her spirit was more difficult. Adsit made contact with S.H.I.E.L.D. to create a Life Model Decoy for this purpose, only to discover a Preston LMD had already been commissioned and was in the field. With the help of Agent Phil Coulson, Deadpool and his friends discovered Agent Gorman was responsible not only for the wandering criminal "Pres-Bot" but he had also been selling S.H.I.E.L.D. intelligence to ULTIMATUM for years. In order to avoid his debts and eliminate the investigators, Gorman called out a hit on Deadpool, answered by the likes of Batroc, Crossbones, Trapster, Paladin and others. Wade was in no mood for fun n' games, and brutally dispatched most of his attackers. Trapster, in particular, he singled out with a warning not to mess with him every again, or he would die. Finally, Deadpool decapitated the Preston LMD and hooked up with Coulson to pursue Gorman, only to discover Gorman had embezzled an entire Helicarrier for ULTIMATUM. [Deadpool (4th series) #21-22]

Deadpool infiltrated the ULTIMATUM Helicarrier as it went into stealth mode, ostensibly in order to shut down the cloaking device so that Coulson and Adsit could bring the forces of S.H.I.E.L.D. in for a strike. Instead, though, Deadpool used the situation as a chance for catharsis and brutally murdered his way through every single ULTIMATUM soldier on the ship. He found Gorman, who was forced to flee in terror before Deadpool got his hands on him. Wade finally returned to an impatient Agent Coulson (ready to start his tactical strike) just as the Helicarrier became visible and exploded, wiping out the entire ULTIMATUM cell. Coulson thanked the cheery Deadpool for his service and quietly updated Wade's threat assessment level in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s databases. [Deadpool (4th series) #23]

With the assistance of Michael and Doctor Strange, Deadpool and Preston were finally ready to upload Emily's consciousness into a new Life Model Decoy body. As they began the process, however, it was discovered the equipment had been sabotaged by Gorman, putting Preston's survival in crisis. Moreover, Deadpool's own subconscious was fighting against letting Preston go. She had been a rock for him throughout his trials with Butler and Carmelita. Wade fought against his own desires in his figurative mindscape, allowing Preston to return to her family.

Alone in his head for the first time in months, Deadpool was in no mood to deal with Crossbones, the last of Gorman's mercenaries still in the field. He brutally beat down Crossbones and ran into Gorman himself, throwing the renegade S.H.I.E.L.D. agent into a trash compactor. Wade was pulled off Crossbones before he killed him by Coulson, Adsit and the new LMD Preston. He finally got his payment for the Zombie Presidents job, but Preston expressed that Wade's violence was getting out of control. She suggested he needed some time away to recover from the last few weeks. Wade agreed and took off to Europe for some rest and recuperation. [Deadpool (4th series) #24-25]

On vacation in London after his recent troubles, Deadpool was approached by vampire agents of Dracula. The Lord of the Vampires explained that he was betrothed to a woman in order to unite the monster kingdoms. Many vampires and other supernatural beings wanted to oppose this union, and so Dracula wished to commission Deadpool's services due to his unique regeneration powers and immunity to mental domination. Deadpool accepted the job, and was sent to the Arabian Peninsula to retrieve the glass coffin of Dracula's fiancé.

As Deadpool fought off various attackers on his way back to the Monster Metropolis in New York City, the coffin was damaged and cracked open. Shiklah, Succubus Queen of the Underworld, emerged from within and greeted Deadpool with a kiss. When he unexpectedly survived her embrace, they exchanged stories. The succubus royalty and vampires had been at war for centuries, with Shiklah's father and brothers apparently preceding her into the afterlife. A marriage to Dracula would bind her heritage to the Vampire Lord, and hopefully bring the competing factions together in peace.

Deadpool and Shiklah became traveling companions as they moved across Europe towards America. Shiklah was completely unfamiliar with the modern world, and so they turned it into a sightseeing tour for her to become acclimated to the present age. Naturally, they also got into trouble as many forces wanted to prevent or exploit her union with Dracula. They fought Blade, M.O.D.O.K., Werewolf by Night and a variety of colorful characters. Both Wade and Shiklah began to feel connected to one another, and they acknowledged their feelings. However, Shiklah's duty to her people was clear and Wade felt the need to honor his deal with Dracula and avoid letting anyone else be hurt by getting close to him.

However, their delay in arriving infuriated Dracula and his plans. Shiklah's brothers emerged from hiding to congratulate their upcoming brother-in-law. Unfortunately, their continued existence meant Shiklah was no longer the heir-apparent to her throne, and politically useless to Dracula. The Lord of the Vampires first sent out agents of his own to kill Deadpool and Shiklah, then turned around and murdered her brothers in order to ensure her inheritance before the wedding. Shiklah became psychically aware of her brothers' deaths, prompting her and Deadpool to oppose Dracula's plans from that point onwards.

In New York, Deadpool and Shiklah were hunted by Dracula's vampire agents and the monstrous Frightful Four before seeking refuge on holy ground. On the spur of the moment, Wade proposed to Shiklah, both because of their growing romance and as a tactical decision to prevent Dracula from claiming the monster throne. Shiklah then infiltrated the Monster Metropolis and called her people to arms against the vampires while Deadpool dealt with the rising "monster mash" spilling out onto the city's streets. With the help of Blade, Bob, Michael the Necromancer, the Thunderbolts and his other allies, Deadpool held back the forces of Dracula.

While Wade was distracted, however, Shiklah had found Dracula, who turned her to stone with the gaze of Medusa. Deadpool and Dracula faced off man-to-man, but the vampire was surprised by how poisonous Deadpool's blood was to him when he took a bite. Even his supernatural healing abilities couldn't counter the effect. Dracula was forced to flee, and his armies left with him. Shiklah lay claim to her throne and her kingdom, with her new queen's consort by her side. [Deadpool: Dracula's Gauntlet #1-7]

Although already officially married, Deadpool and Shiklah decided to have a real ceremony as well to celebrate their nuptials. He told Preston and Adsit during a shootout with ULTIMATUM who were still mad at him for, y'know, killing a buttload of their guys. Wade was a bit surprised at the respect and attendance his wedding received. His newfound connection with Captain America and Wolverine brought him credibility with the Avengers and X-Men. His ties to the Prestons also gave him a more traditional family to call upon as well. Deadpool asked Nightcrawler to officiate his wedding, and they also shared a somber discussion about Kim and the test subjects from North Korea. [Deadpool (4th series) #27] On their honeymoon, Deadpool and Shiklah traveled to Japan. Wade met with Kim, who had settled there with the other survivors. He gave Kim some money to keep them going, and wished his friend the best. [Deadpool (4th series) #28]

During a fight with ULTIMATUM, Deadpool was reunited with the Deadpool Corps. His former allies recruited him into a multiverse spanning conflict with the opposing Evil Deadpool Corps. In one dark corner of reality, a version of Deadpool was twisted by his knowledge of being watched from "beyond the fourth wall." He killed his entire Marvel Universe by destroying their Nexus of All Realities to free them from the torment of being puppets to their creators. This Deadpool (or "Dreadpool") killed his way through the Ideaverse, destroying iconic figures of literary historyto undo the very idea of comic book heroes. Finally, Dreadpool had the notion that, because he was self-aware to his fictional origins, then that might make him the true progenitor, the creator of all things who dreamed up the comic book universe. He resolved himself towards killing all incarnations of Deadpool throughout the multiverse, hoping their deaths would bring about the end of all that is. Many versions of Wade Wilson embraced the nihilism of this, and a "suicide war" began between the two Deadpool Corps.

After this mighty expositional infodump by their own Watcher fan boy, Deadpool and the Deadpool Corps attempted to hook up with the rest of their allies on an alternate earth, only to find the Evil Deadpools had already been there. Headpool had previously been killed, and Wade was forced to watch the deaths of Dogpool, Kidpool, Lady Deadpool and other versions of himself who wanted to live. Naturally, his own cast-off Evil Deadpool had joined up with Dreadpool's corps as well. With the help of Pandapool ("The Species That Endangers You!"), Deadpool survived a Galactipool, Wolverinepool, Deadpool the Duck, Spiral Deadpool, Dino Deadpool,  D.E.A.D.P.O.O.L., and many others.

The Watcher of Deadpool sacrificed himself to reignite the Nexus of All Realities, transporting Deadpool, Pandapool and their remaining friends to Dreadpool's home reality. After a massive running battle across the city, all Deadpools on both sides of the conflict were dead except Deadpool and Dreadpool. As they fought, Dreadpool tried to convince Deadpool of his beliefs, that Wade Wilson's fourth wall awareness meant they could shape and influence reality around them. Deadpool scoffed at the idea until Dreadpool pointed out the obvious. Hours of combat, multiple injuries healed from during his battle with the Evil Deadpool Corps, sword slashes, bullet wounds, chainsaw through the chest... and yet Wade's costume was still pristine. A "continuity glitch" initiated by Wade's own control over the story.

Deadpool was spooked by the observation, but he turned the narrative around on Dreadpool. The suicidal serial killer believed he was suppressing his own healing factor through the power of the narrative, so that he could truly die once all other Deadpools were gone. When Deadpool observed Dreadpool was healing anyway, it momentarily shocked the parallel Wade Wilson back to his senses. As Dreadpool questioned whether his life's work had really accomplished anything other than senseless murder, Deadpool took the opportunity to decapitate his doppelganger, ending the Deadpool Wars. Wade was left with questions about his fourth world awareness but, in true Deadpool fashion, he quickly decided not to care. [Deadpool Kills Deadpool #1-4]

After his marriage to Shiklah, Deadpool found his growing responsibilities were too much to continue supporting his membership in the Thunderbolts. When the Punisher quit over the Red Hulk's efforts to use criminals for an advantage instead of murder them, Ross told all the squad members to recommit to the team or not. Deadpool chose not. [Thunderbolts (2nd series) #27-28] However, the Red Leader betrayed Ross by leaving a bomb in Punisher's flat, intent on implicating Red Hulk. Sure enough, Castle survived and began hunting down the other Thunderbolts to get his revenge. He couldn't take chances on Deadpool being out of the game, and dismembered Wade in a series of individual jars to keep him from regenerating. The Red Leader's scheme was eventually uncovered and the Thunderbolts reassembled for one last mission to liberate Kata Jaya from his control. Still, the miniscule trust that previously existing between the T-Bolts was gone, and Red Hulk's squad remained disbanded afterwards. [Thunderbolts (2nd series) #29, 32]

Vampire assassins continued to plague the Monster Metropolis, as Dracula's forces refused to allow Shiklah to rule in peace. As war council to the queen, Deadpool decided to hunt down the different vampire nests threatening the kingdom, and wrangled up some extra firepower. While at S.H.I.E.L.D. listening to Preston's updated search into Butler and Ellie, he tried to recruit the agency's mutant liaison Dazzler so her light powers could be used against the vampires. Dazzler refused (mostly because she was secretly Mystique posing as Dazzler), and so Wade snuck into the Baxter Building and stole a time machine to recruit the swinging Disco Dazzler from the past. [Deadpool (4th series) #29]

In the meantime, Preston's search for Eleanor had heated up. She uncovered Butler's real name was Bartol Utler, and he had given Ellie to his brother Joshua to raise in secret after kidnapping her and Carmelita. Preston found them in the outskirts of Chicago, but ULTIMATUM found them too. The terrorist group had been tipped off about Ellie by Gorman before his death, and wanted Deadpool's daughter in order to exact revenge on him. The Presbot was heavily damaged by ULTIMATUM during their raid on Joshua Utler's house, and just managed to transmit an alert to Deadpool's phone before going offline. Hearing Ellie was in danger, Deadpool immediately abandoned the vampire side-quest, and begged Thor at Avengers Mansion to transport him to Chicago with all possible speed. [Deadpool (4th series) #30-31]

When he arrived in Chicago, Deadpool raced to find Joshua and Ellie before ULTIMATUM could. He made some calls, among them to get Adsit in the field and bring Preston back online. He also called Evan at Xavier's mansion and asked him to come to the rescue too. All parties caught up with each other in an alleyway and, while Deadpool killed the ULTIMATUM team, the stress overcame Joshua Utler's heart, giving him a fatal heart attack. As he died, Joshua told Deadpool he knew nothing about Butler's experiments and had only tried to keep Ellie safe. He asked Wade to pledge on his life that Ellie would be protected, and Deadpool solemnly agreed. [Deadpool (4th series) #32]

Dodging any deeper questions about who he was, Deadpool took Ellie to the top of a highrise building for safety while waiting for his backup. He killed dozens of ULTIMATUM agents while protecting Eleanor, but finally the current Flag-Smasher and his men beat Deadpool down and restrained him. Wade had to watch as Flag-Smasher tossed Ellie out the window to die on the pavement below. A furious Deadpool broke free and turned his rage on ULTIMATUM, but he was in luck. Genesis had flown in from Westchester in his Celestial armor and caught Ellie before she was hurt. Wade thanked Evan with all his heart, and then turned on Flag-Smasher. He removed the terrorist's finger to get his prints and dropped his cowl to see his face. Deadpool told Flag-Smasher he was completely off-limits to ULTIMATUM from now on. If Flag-Smasher did not keep his organization at a distance, Deadpool would find and kill everyone the man had ever loved. A suitably cowed and intimidated Flag-Smasher was kicked off down the stairwell as Preston and Adsit finally arrived with backup.

In order to ensure Ellie was as safe as possible from his enemies, Deadpool had Genesis and his friend Kid Omega arrange to telepathically fake "Ellie Utler's" death. He then convinced Preston to adopt the girl for him, so that she would always be protected. As an added defense, Wade bought out the house across the street from the Prestons, letting him remain constantly nearby but at a distance so Ellie could grow up relatively normal. Deadpool received considerable flak from Shiklah for abandoning the defense of her kingdom, but he knew he had to make sure Ellie was cared for. [Deadpool (4th series) #33]

When Logan died, Steve Rogers recruited Deadpool to make sure he remained dead. The Hand had brought Wolverine back from the dead before as a brainwashed assassin, and any number of agencies could have similar plots in mind. With the Super-Soldier Serum depleted, Rogers had reverted to his natural age, and he needed Wade for backup. They commiserated over Logan while infiltrating an A.I.M. facility to retrieve a bloody knife with Logan's DNA on it. Deadpool questioned why they DIDN'T just revive Wolverine this way, but Rogers believed in preserving the natural order, and felt whatever they revived wouldn't really be Logan. When the mission was over, Cap left the knife with Wade, trusting him to do what was right. [Death of Wolverine: Deadpool & Captain America #1] Deadpool apparently destroyed the knife in the end, but he briefly tried to assumed Logan's identity as the new Wolverine. It... didn't go well. [Wolverines #13]

Wade spent time getting to know Ellie as she settled in with the Prestons. He also reached out to Carmelita's mother, letting her know about her daughter and granddaughter. With Nightcrawler's support, Deadpool brought Kim and the surviving "FauX-Men" from North Korea to the Jean Grey Institute for care and hospice. Their bodies were continually breaking down without Butler's treatments, and Wade was forced to go under the knife again with Hank McCoy to provide the regenerative organs Kim and the others needed to survive. In lighter news, a still-recovering Dracula used the power of a Spider-Slayer robot to attack Deadpool. It was a welcome distraction. [Deadpool (4th series) #35-36]

Shortly thereafter, Deadpool arrived in Genosha along with a cadre of heroes and villains to face the Red Onslaught. The Red Skull had grafted the telepathic brain of Charles Xavier to his own and evolved into a being of pure psychic hatred. He was broadcasting waves of bigotry and malice throughout the world while holding a number of mutants hostage, including Evan. All of which was super uncool and all, but totally worth it when Deadpool got Storm and Iron Man to agree he was an honorary X-Man and Avenger! And it totally wasn't under duress or out of context or anything! Really!

Doctor Doom and the Scarlet Witch manipulated order and chaos to cast an inversion spell, intent on awakening the essence of Charles Xavier left in his brain to overcome the Red Skull's consciousness. The spell was successful, but more potent than intended -- it inverted the axis of everyone present on the battlefield. Villains became magnanimous, heroes became amoral, and Deadpool became more calm and centered than he had ever been. "Zenpool" was at peace with himself and the universe, devoting himself to pacifism in order to find a new path in life.

Not everyone enjoyed the new Deadpool, though. Shiklah found her husband's new behavior to be weak and unworthy of the warrior she married. Deadpool was also forced to evacuate Kim's friends from the Jean Grey Institute, for the inverted X-Men were no longer willing to suffer houseguests. His biggest regret, however, was Evan. Once inverted, Genesis succumbed to every dark desire he had suppressed in life, ascending to become the new Apocalypse. Evan and the twisted versions of the X-Men intended to unleash a genetic bomb that would wipe out humanity, leaving behind only mutantkind to rule. Zenpool attempted to pacify Apocalypse, talking Evan into accepting nurture over nature, but the driven Darwinist ripped Deadpool's head off before coming around to his way of thinking. [Axis crossover]

In the aftermath, the inversion spell was reversed and the genetic bomb stopped, but Evan was still considered a wanted criminal due to his highly public role as Apocalypse. Deadpool offered him sanctuary at his house in Queens near the Prestons until the heat was off. He reconciled with Shiklah now that his pacifism was in the past, and Kim and the FauX-Men settled nicely into the Monster Metropolis. One of Shilklah's wizards used dark magic to conjure a tree that produced fruit based on Deadpool's organs so that Wade didn't need to undergo surgery each time Kim's people needed replacement parts. In fact, most of Wade's friends and loved ones were now happy, or at least content. However, this only served to highlight that Wade himself was not. Remembering what it felt like as "Zenpool" caused him acute depression as he settled back into an un-centered, un-peaceful state of mind. [Deadpool (4th series) #39]

Shiklah recognized the troubles on her husband's mind, and suggested he go on walkabout to reclaim what he had lost to the inversion. Unfortunately, Wade found himself at Butler's old medical supply center and uncovered a stash of Tabula Rasa. Deadpool seriously began to consider taking Tabula Rasa again, thinking he may have been better off when he didn't know how screwed up his life was. He got a reprieve when Trapster contacted him to make nice and offered a piece of a merc job for RoXXon in Al-Waziribad, clearing out some locals. The job turned out to be so bad, it reawakened Deadpool's conscience. RoXXon wanted a group of innocent villagers murdered off for defending their homes so the oil company could gain access to their land. Deadpool and Trapster turned against the other mercenaries and sided with the villagers. Wade also reconciled with Shiklah when he discovered one of the "natural resources" RoXXon intended to exploit was nearly one hundred smoke-filled coffins of Shiklah's people from a nearby tomb. [Deadpool (4th series) #41-44]

Unfortunately, in Deadpool's absence, ULTIMATUM killed their old Flag-Smasher and appointed a new one, a man willing to seek revenge on Wade. Ellie and the Preston family were targeted, but the Presbot with the help of Michael and Ben Franklin prevented any casualties. Deadpool returned from the Middle East and helped them go into hiding before planning his retaliation against ULTIMATUM. He lured the entire ULTIMATUM force to an isolated farm in the Midwest before unleashing hell on them.

There were no pranks or wisecracks this time, only pure and brutal retribution. Wade exhausted a series of military-grade Predator drones strafing ULTIMATUM from the air, then activated an EMP that wiped out the remaining troops' tech. He then single-handedly murdered his way through the entire terrorist army, until the new Flag-Smasher was dead along with every single soldier who claimed affiliation to ULTIMATUM.

Wade Wilson decided to retire as Deadpool after the ULTIMATUM affair, and planned to go into seclusion with his friends and family. He was surprised and thankful that the Prestons held no grudge against him for putting them in harm's way, and instead were grateful to have him in their lives as a friend and protector. On their new yacht heading off to their new life, however, Wilson and his friends were caught in the final Incursion as Earth-616 and Earth-1610 crashed together. The old order of the multiverse was destroyed, leaving behind only... Battleworld. [Deadpool (4th series) #45]

[Note: The finale of Secret Wars #9 seemingly undid or rewrote the Incursion era of Marvel in ways that have not been clearly depicted on-panel. Therefore, it's unclear how much of Deadpool's finale remains in continuity, other than the broad strokes.]

Reversing his decision to retire, Deadpool returned to mercenary life while putting Ellie and the Prestons in witness protection until it could be confirmed there were no more imminent threats on their lives. With the Avengers largely inactive after the Incursion crisis, Steve Rogers began relying on Deadpool to perform missions when he had no team to assemble and was too old to carry out himself. Rogers was the only person Wade would perform pro bono mercenary work for. On one mission, he acquired a sample of Terrigen Mists to keep it out of terrorist hands and help the Unity Division's mutant member Rogue, who was suffering from the M-Pox that afflicted mutants exposed to Terrigen. After that mission, Cap changed Deadpool's life by handing him a small white slip of paper... his Avengers Identification Card. Deadpool had been drafted into Earth's Mightiest Heroes. [Avengers #0]
