COSTUME GALLERY
1) Daredevil’s first costume was sewn together by Matt Murdock, using his hyper-sensitive sense of touch to “feel” different colors! According to some sources, the original material came from Battlin’ Jack Murdock’s boxing gear. The primarily yellow suit was blended with a unitard of dark red (almost black) material. His gloves and boots were of the same color. His hood had small protrusions like devil’s horns, opaque eye lenses and he had a red ‘D’ on his chest. He also had a brown belt and hip holster for his billy club. Daredevil made several small changes to his costume in the early months. He incorporated a zippered hoodie on his back to store his civilian clothes, but discarded it as too easily torn or grabbed. The ‘D’ on his chest was also replaced with a double ‘DD’ that would make it into his next outfit. [Daredevil (1st series) #1]
2) Daredevil’s longest-running classic costume earned him the nickname “the Scarlet Swashbuckler.” This suit was a full body dark red design, with boots, gloves, belt and hip holster for his billy club all in shades of red. A “DD” insignia was emblazoned on his chest. His red cowl left his lower face exposed and included devil horns and opaque lenses covering his eyes. The earliest version of this suit had a radio transceiver hidden in the cowl, using his horns as antenna keyed to police radio frequencies. [Daredevil (1st series) #7]
3) When his regular costume was shredded during the About Face virus affair, Matt realized he needed a tougher suit. He broke into several advanced material laboratories (anonymously donating to them for reimbursement) to assemble a modified, armored costume. This new suit included genetically-enhanced biomimetic fabric mixed with a “bricklike crystal pattern in abalone shell” for armor pieces. The suit was basic gray with raised pieces of red armor on his chest plate, stomach and back. Exterior armor plating lined his legs, shoulders and knee pads while remaining flexible. His billy club halves were now mounted to braces on his forearms. Daredevil kept the cowl’s horns and a stylized “DD” on the chest plate. [Daredevil (1st series) #321]

4) While working undercover for S.H.I.E.L.D., Matt received a new face and a new identity as Laurent Levasseur. He obscured his identity with a special suit which served as a mix between his costume and S.H.I.E.L.D. standard issue. The suit was a basic black material accentuated by red boots, gloves, belt, and shoulder straps. His glove has a pressure-deploying truncheon which allowed him to mirror the fighting style of his billy club. [Daredevil (1st series) #376]
5) For Nick Fury’s secret war in Latveria, Daredevil adopted an impact suit based on Kree materials. It was largely black, with a sleeveless red “tunic” imprinted over the chest. Thin red lines traced on his gloves, leggings and the back of his mask. The front of the mask still looked like the traditional red Daredevil masks, complete with horns. [Secret War #2]
6) As he assumed control of the Hand, Matt adopted a new costume to reflect his status. This black uniform subtly signaled the growing influence of the Beast of the Hand on his soul, with slightly more pronounced devil horns and a different font for the “DD” on his chest which resembled blood. His billy club was held by a red strap and holster on his leg, and his gloves were affixed with vicious blocking blades on the outsides of his forearms. [Shadowland #1]
--) Matt returned to his classic costume after severing ties with the Hand. This version of the suit sometimes had visible “trunks” instead of a seamless red body suit. It was also mentioned that his costume was now a Stark-designed fabric able to retain heat during the winter. [Daredevil (3rd series) #1]
7) After revealing his secret identity and moving to the west coast, Matt started promoting his new autobiography by discarding the mask and openly embracing Matt Murdock and Daredevil as one and the same. This red suit included a four buttoned vest, black shirt, and a ‘DD’ belt buckle. [Daredevil (4th series) #14]
8) When his secret identity was restored, Daredevil changed his gear into a new black costume. Very similar to his Hand grandmaster suit, this costume was basic black with red eyepieces, lace-up boots, utility belt, and wrappings with exposed fingers. The ‘DD’ on his chest was also red with a slight flaming effect. In recent years his billy club had been white, but it was now distinctly red as well. [Daredevil (5th series) #1]

9) Daredevil’s costume after rehabilitation from the truck crash was essentially the same as his classic costume. However, there were slight redesigns across his “look.” His mask was now a reinforced skullcap clearly engineered to take a hit better than spandex fabric. His tunic had new lines tracing from his sleeves down past his abs, and his ‘DD’ was now a raised symbol on his chest. Instead of traditional gloves, he wore the red boxing wrappings from his black costume. His pants were a more natural fit than form-fitting leggings, with cuffs tucked into his boots and a normal brown belt holding them up. [Daredevil (6th series) #1]
10) After killing a man by accident, Matt Murdock declared that Daredevil was dead. Still, after months passed, he began finding reasons to step out again as a vigilante. Sometimes it was a simple as tying a white shirt over his face while wearing normal clothes. Other times, he prepared ahead with black tactical gear and a black bandana over his eyes. He eventually reclaimed the Daredevil identity and costume in Daredevil (6th series) #21.
11) As the head of the Fist, Daredevil’s suit was customized to have more of a ninja feel to it. It included black pants, or gi, and a sleeveless robe which also acted as a shawl for his head. He also had small blades attached at his knuckles. [Daredevil (7th series) #4]
12) As an agent of God, Daredevil's costume became a purified and unblemished white, signifying the holiness of his quest and his purpose. [Daredevil (7th series) #12]
