The title of Sorcerer Supreme originated with Agamotto, spawn of the Elder Goddess known as Oshtur. Stephen Strange once said it was akin to "Fastest Gun in the West", meaning the title alone conveys little power but invites rivals to claim it. However, when properly passed on, the title of Sorcerer Supreme brings with it the patronage and responsibilities bestowed by the Vishanti (Oshtur, Hoggoth, and Agamotto). This includes hereditary power, access to spells and extra-dimensional support for their magic, but also the burden of acting as guardian of the Earth dimension.
