Yondu is a native of Centauri-IV in the Beta Centauri system. His planet hosted the first extra-solar colony from the planet Earth.

In the 31st century of Earth-691, Yondu's people were technologically primitive, living in tribal camps and having no space-faring ability of their own. No direct connection has yet been drawn between the Guardians' Yondu and the space pirate Centaurian of the 21st century also known as Yondu Udonta.
