While recovering in Attilan, Pietro petitioned to undergo Terrigenesis, in the hopes that the Terrigen Mists would restore his mutant abilities, but was denied the opportunity by Black Bolt and Medusa. He snuck into the Terrigen crystal caverns anyway, and exposed himself to a 
massive dose of Terrigen vapors. Surprisingly, his speed did not return but he instead gained the power of time travel, allowing him to jump forward in time for brief intervals. Using this ability, Quicksilver devised a plan with his future self to steal a supply of Terrigen from the caverns and bring it to Earth, hoping to restore mutantkind's powers and undo Wanda's actions. Past and future Quicksilvers, working together, were able to appropriate a sizeable mass of the crystals and then leave for Earth days before the crystals were even stolen. Pietro brought his daughter Luna with him on his quest to restore Earth's mutants. Pushing aside his previous concerns and internal debates on the issue, Pietro also decided to expose Luna to the Terrigen Mists. While Luna gained the power of empathic sight, Pietro learned that neither of them could maintain their powers indefinitely, and required another inhalation of the vapors every few days. Quicksilver attempted to start his resurrection of the mutant race on Genosha, administering Terrigen to the few former mutants who had remained in the ruined country. This led to a conflict when the Inhumans arrived to reclaim the crystals and a US special forces team came to confiscate the crystals to prevent mutantkind from re-populating. The special forces got a hold of the crystals, and Quicksilver and Luna barely escaped. After reaching sanctuary, Pietro recognized the danger of keeping his daughter with him (and her apparent addiction to the mists' effects) and had Lockjaw take her back to her mother. [Son of M #5-6]
Using a small supply of the crystal he had held in reserve, Quicksilver spent weeks exposing himself to the Terrigen Mists until his newfound powers seemingly became permanent. This constant exposure granted Pietro what he called "an altered state of consciousness" and he found himself capable of traveling months into the future with his power, and stay there for several days. During these time-jumps, he learned of an imminent war between the Inhumans and America, and he also witnessed a celestial event of immense power - a massive discharge of energy on the moon that was visible from Earth, located near Attilan itself.
Upon returning to the present, Pietro became a bit unhinged, and took it upon himself to forcibly grind the Terrigen crystals into the flesh of his chest and hands, which gave him the power to 
restore mutant abilities with a simple touch. [Silent War #3] He came to believe his restoration power was guided by a divine hand; in order to justify the frequent and horrific twists that afflicted mutants re-empowered by him, Pietro convinced himself that only those worthy of regaining their powers whole will do so, and those who did not were being judged unfit for mutantkind. Quicksilver moved into what had been known as Mutant Town in New York, setting up in a medical center where he acted to restore the powers of former mutants who came to him. Mutant Town's guardians, X-Factor, gave him their acceptance (if not trust) to operate in their borders after he confessed to them the truth about M-Day and the House of M, something their allies in the X-Men deliberately kept from them. However, he found himself deeply at odds with Layla Miller, whose own future knowledge had shown her how dangerous Pietro truly was. [X-Factor (3rd series) #8-11, 13]
When the Inhumans began their cold war against the United States over the mis-appropriated crystals, they became aware of the fact that Pietro had kept a small quantity of Terrigen after their last encounter. Black Bolt and the royals traveled to Mutant Town to confront him over his theft, but Pietro was aware of their coming, thanks to the guidance of X-Factor’s Layla Miller. Layla had convinced Pietro to time-jump to the time of the Inhumans' arrival and watched their 
encounter from a safe distance. From his vantage point, Quicksilver saw himself survive a beating at Black Bolt's hands and what appeared to be a tender reunion with Crystal. Armed with this knowledge of the future, Pietro returned to the present for his confrontation with Black Bolt. He allowed the Inhuman king to beat on him for his sacrilege in abusing the Terrigen crystals, and then informed the Inhumans of his vision of Attilan's apparent destruction. He even offered to return to Attilan and personally oversee the Terrigenesis of the Inhumans with his new powers. Pietro did this believing it would lead to the reunion with Crystal he saw in his time-jump, but Layla had manipulated him. She had only allowed him to see what she wanted him to see, and what looked like a joyous reconnection with Crystal from a distance was actually her kissing him good-bye forever, annulling their marriage with the blessing of her king and denying him any right to see his daughter Luna again. [Silent War #2-3]
Next, Quicksilver became involved with a group of former mutants who had organized into an X-Cell, striking at the U.S. government who they believed was responsible for the 
Decimation. Obviously not inclined to tell them the truth, Pietro nonetheless agreed to help them regain their powers. Having recently come up with a theory on how to purify the restoration process by channeling it through another person as a medium, he chose Rictor of X-Factor, because Rictor had previously had a connection to the natural world, and that could prove useful in restoring natural evolution in others. Or so the theory went. In practice, the process was still unstable, and the leader of the X-Cell ended up exploding after his powers were restored. Rictor did not enjoy being used, and turned on Quicksilver, using the small fraction of his own power which had been restored by the channeling process to vibrate the Terrigen crystals out of Pietro's body, causing them to shatter and dissipate into nothingness. [X-Factor (3rd series) #17-20]
Pietro hit rock bottom after losing the Terrigen crystals and, with them, his powers. When he ran across Layla Miller in Central Park, floating in the water and injured from a fight, he immediately thought to avenge himself against his "nemesis." Still, he first pulled her to safety and trembled at the idea of killing her with his bare hands. He hesitated long enough for Layla to escape and was 
only injured further trying to chase after her. [X-Factor (3rd series) #23] The police found him unconscious in the park and locked him up for vagrancy. Concussed and hallucinating in his cell, Pietro finally came to deny the hubris that led him to think he was an instrument of God. Through a series of delusional conversations with Wanda, Magneto, Crystal and Layla, Pietro came to understand how wrong he had been, and rejected the path he had been on. Surprisingly, this revelation led to the stunning return of his powers, with his speed restored to faster than he had ever been before. Finding a turning point in his life, Quicksilver felt blessed to move forward. [X-Factor: The Quick and the Dead #1]
Seeking redemption, Quicksilver soon responded to the Knights of Wundagore, who needed aid preventing Modred the Mystic from summoning Chthon to Wundagore through the power of the Darkhold. He was undone by Modred's treachery, however, and was forced to act as a vessel for Chthon's dark essence, just as Wanda had years before. Chthon used Pietro's speed to carve sigils of chaos magic into the earth itself, causing worldwide breakdown of fundamental laws. A new team of Avengers was gathered to confront Chthon, and at Wundagore they found Pietro's soul entrapped in the pages of the Darkhold, just as Chthon had once been the Darkhold's essence. Taking advantage of the symbolism at play, Hank Pym had the Vision read the "Book of Quicksilver" at super-processing speed, effectively downloading Pietro's mind into his neural network as a "spell" and therefore leaving a vacuum in the Darkhold itself, which called Chthon back to it.
With Chthon trapped again and Quicksilver back in his own body, Pym decided to suggest this newly-assembled team remain together permanently. Pietro rejected the idea at first, thinking Pym's motley crew wasn't fit to help him in his quest to restore his damaged reputation. So Pietro was taken aback when the Scarlet Witch materialized to teleport away the new team of Avengers she had created to deal with Chthon. [Mighty Avengers (1st series) #21-23]
As the new Wasp, Hank Pym and the Scarlet Witch led their new team of Avengers all over the world, confronting one menace after another in short order. Quicksilver desperately followed after them, tracking reports in the hopes of finding Wanda and learning what happened to her after the House of M. The team kept teleporting away just as Pietro arrived, however, leaving him to deal with the media left in their wake. Seeing an opportunity in response to a reporter's questions, Pietro claimed on air that he had been a victim of the Skrull infiltration like Hank Pym and many 
others in recent months, casting off all responsibility for his actions over the last few years as the doings of his "Skrull impersonator." Quicksilver finally caught up with the Avengers as they were given license to operate with the Global Reaction Agency for Mysterious Paranormal Activity. With the support of G.R.A.M.P.A. and worldwide adoration following their recent victories, Pietro finally decided it was "worth his time" to operate with Pym's Avengers. Although he still privately looked down upon the team, Quicksilver hoped to learn more about Wanda's mysterious comings and goings, despite her teleporting away whenever he tried to speak with her. Despite his priorities, Quicksilver found himself occupied by Avengers business away from Wanda time and again. He and U.S. Agent responded to G.R.A.M.P.A.'s request for an Inhuman specialist in Tibet, where Pietro uncovered a plot by the exiled Inhuman king known only as the Unspoken to use the lost Xenogen Crystals and his Slave Engine to mutate all non-Inhumans on Earth into Alpha Primitives. [Mighty Avengers (1st series) #27-31] After the Unspoken was defeated, Pietro used the opportunity to make contact with the Inhumans, now operating as rulers of the Kree Empire on Hala. Using the Skrull impersonator story and the gift of the lost Xenogen Crystals, Pietro regained his position of honor in the eyes of the Inhuman Royal Family. He was rewarded for his efforts and forgiven for his "imposter's" past crime of stealing the Terrigen, regaining Crystal's respect, if not her love. However, Quicksilver's success was tarnished when he met with Luna, who revealed her empathic powers showed that her father was lying about the Skrull. Luna was done with her father after this, seeing his lies as evidence that he would never truly change or redeem himself. Luna told Pietro she would keep his secrets, but their relationship as father and daughter was truly over. [Mighty Avengers (1st series) #31-32, Realm of Kings: Inhumans #1-2]
Hank Pym had long suspected the Scarlet Witch was an imposter and, during Pietro's absence in Tibet, the Avengers at the Infinite Mansion confirmed it. Pym initially kept the truth from Pietro, however, in order to keep his services with the Avengers. Pym and Amadeus Cho set a trap for "Wanda" and finally informed Pietro of their suspicions that the Scarlet Witch was actually Loki. Quicksilver was livid that his teammates had been lying to him for weeks about his sister, but he stayed on to participate in the trap.
The Avengers managed to snare Loki in a "magic trap" created by Pym on the Isle of Silence. Quicksilver demanded answers from Loki about the location of his sister, but the God of Mischief 
claimed he merely assumed her likeness and had no idea where Wanda was. Pietro refused to believe him and used Pym's device to drain Loki's magic and torture him, which looked bad when Thor arrived in response to Loki's mental summons. Thor relieved his step-brother from Pym's torture device, and chided his fellow Avengers for their actions. When Hank Pym went so far as to offer Loki membership in the Avengers, Quicksilver was fed up and refused to continue working with Pym's team. Most of the other members agreed with Pietro and abandoned Pym for his arrogance and secrets. [Mighty Avengers (1st series) #34]
